Pre-Treatment Guidelines
- Schedule your appointment at least 2 weeks prior to a special event. Redness, swelling and bruising may be apparent in that time period.
- Avoid any dental procedure(s) 2 weeks prior to any filler procedure(s).
- It is recommended to discontinue the use of Aspirin at least 3 days to 1 week before and after treatment to minimize bruising or bleeding. Please consult with your primary physician prior to discontinuing any medications.
- Avoid alcohol, caffeine, Niacin supplement, high-sodium foods, high sugar foods, refined carbohydrates, spicy foods and vaping 24-48 hours before and after your treatment. All of these factors may increase risk of bruising and swelling.
- Let our provider know if you have a history of cold sores. An antiviral may be prescribed.
- You may not have an active rash in the area being treated.
Post-Treatment Guidelines
- Redness or sensitivity might be present (and last up to a few hours).
- Avoid significant movement or massage of the treated area unless instructed by the provider.
- Avoid exercise for 24 hours.
- Avoid extensive sun or heat for 72 hours.
- Avoid applying makeup for 24 hours to injected area(s).
- If you have swelling, you may apply a cool compress/ice.
- Avoid drinking out of a straw for 24 hours.
- Sleep face up and slightly elevated. This will also help with swelling.
- It is recommended that you wait at least 2 weeks before having any other facial treatments (i.e. facials, massages, lasers, micro-dermabrasion).

It is common to notice redness, swelling, bruising and soreness immediately after the procedure. However, this shouldn’t prevent you from returning to work after injections. We recommend scheduling injections around your work schedule if you are concerned about the social downtime.
Results commonly become noticeable within one week after treatment and improve with time. When treating skin concerns such as melasma and deep lines and wrinkles, it can take several treatments before noticing results.
Results from treatment are permanent. We recommend diligent lifestyle measures and a Med Spa skin care routine to maintain results.
Topical anesthetic cream is applied to reduce discomfort during the treatment.
The most common side effects include bleeding, bruising, swelling, and redness. These most commonly improve within 1-3 days after treatment.
Makeup may be worn 72 hours after treatment.
We recommend receiving clearance from your OBGYN prior to treatment if pregnant or breastfeeding.

- Avoidance of Accutane for the past 6 months is required.
- Discontinue topical retinoids 24 hours before treatment to reduce sensitivity.
- If pregnant, you must receive clearance from OB/GYN.
- It is recommended to discontinue the use of Aspirin, NSAIDS, Gingko Biloba, Garlic, Ginseng, Flax Oil, Cod Liver Oil, Vitamin A, Vitamin E or any other essential fatty acides 1 week before and after treatment to minimize bruising or bleeding from injections. Please consult with your primary physician prior to discontinuing any medications.
- Avoid alcohol, caffeine, Niacin supplement, high-sodium foods, high sugar foods, refined carbohydrates, spicy foods and cigarettes 24-48 hours before and after your injections. All of these factors may increase risk of bruising and swelling.
- Starting Arnica supplements at least 2 days prior to injections may help with bruising from injections.
Post-Treatment Guidelines
- Redness or sensitivity might be present (and last up to a few days).
- Use Tylenol only as needed for any soreness.
- Peeling may start 3-5 days after the procedure.
- Do not pick or scratch at treated skin.
- Avoid strenuous excercise or sweating for 24 hours due to open skin.
- Avoid sun tanning and prolonged exposure to direct sunlight.
- If exposed to sun, always use braod-spectrum SPF 30+ and reapply every 2 hours.
- For melasma and scarring, RTC every 4-6 weeks; 4-6 treatments recommended for best results.
- For age management, RTC every 12 weeks; 4-6 treatments recommended for best results.
